Surf city Family Park

The town of Surf City, North Carolina is renaming its family park to honor the late Kenneth D. Batts, who died in a bicycle accident last year. Batts was well-known in the community, and had served on the town council for two terms. He was also a community leader and helped acquire the land for the park. He was remembered with great pride in his community and was a great friend to many people.

The park features a picnic shelter, playground area, basketball court, restrooms, and a long boardwalk into the water. The beach is accessible from Kenny Park. On July 12, a ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. and is open to the public. Anyone may speak at the ceremony. It will feature comments from local residents and visitors alike. Afterward, the public is invited to attend and celebrate the new park. A great place to also visit is Poplar Grove Plantation.
